Welcome to UF EDGE, the University of Florida's Electronic Delivery of Graduate Engineering program!
degree programs
We offer online master's degrees from seven of our gator engineering departments with 20 different degree program tracks available in these seven majors. Each master's degree program consists of 10 courses (30 credit hours of coursework). Courses are offered on a semester basis, with various course offerings for the fall, spring and summer terms. You can begin a degree program in any one of these three semesters and are free to take as many or as few courses as your work and life schedule permits each semester. Master's degrees can be completed in as little as 24 months. The courses you will be taking in the master's degree program are combined classroom courses where local UF graduate students are participating in the same courses that you will be watching online and you will be able to chat with these on-campus students through the UF online course environment. Course lectures are captured daily from these live lecture classrooms and are posted online the same day in streaming, downloadable and podcast formats for you to watch at your job, at home or while you travel. All course assignments are submitted are returned electronically and exams are administered at your place of work using a proctor and are faxed in for grading. You are never required to travel to campus. Also, since the classes you are completing are the exact same courses our on-campus graduate students take, your degree earned is the exact same degree as our on-campus students, with absolutely no mention of "distance learning" on your diploma or transcript...more
online certificates
In addition to online degree programs we currently offer two online graduate certificates, which are shorter programs consisting of 3-5 courses. These certificates are a good way to expand or refresh some of your engineering skills in a given area if you do not need or desire a full graduate degree. If you decide to later pursue an online graduate degree through UF EDGE and are admitted into a graduate department, the courses you completed in the certificate programs can be transferred to count towards your 10 course online master's degree. UF EDGE will work with interested companies to structure online certificates to meet their training needs. Please contact Dr. Pamela Dickrell at pld@ufl.edu, if your company would like to discuss forming an online certificate for your educational needs...more
individual courses
Any of our UF EDGE online classes can also be taken as individual courses without being part of a degree program. This can be done in two ways. The first is as a non-degree seeking student. Under this classification you will complete all the homework assignments and exams in a course as a regular student and will receive a grade for the course. Many students choose this option their first semester to try out online course before beginning a degree program. You can complete up to three qualifying courses as a non-degree seeking student and have them later transferred to count towards your 10 course online master's degree if you choose to pursue the degree option. The second way to take individual courses is by registering for them as instructional workshops. The instructional workshop format does not include regular homework assignments or exams, but does include all the lecture materials and regular professor interaction concerning what is covered in class. Some companies and individual students prefer the instructional workshop format as a means of training their workforce in emerging engineering areas without obligating them to complete weekly class assignments. Instructional workshop pricing is also lower than our regular courses and group discounts are available for interested companies. Instructional workshop delivery of course material is not tied to any academic semester, so interested students and companies can arrange an online lecture delivery schedule convenient to their workforce. Engineers interested in earning continuing education units (CEUs) for instructional workshops can do so by completing a comprehensive quiz at the end of the course...more
