about the exam process

Proctors are required in the distance education process used by UF EDGE to guarantee the integrity of quizzes and examinations.

The instructor provides UF EDGE with a copy of the exam and the UF EDGE Coversheet. This is usually given after the campus class has taken the exam.

By way of the UF EDGE Cover Sheet the instructor dictates to UF EDGE when the exam is to be emailed to the proctor as well as the deadline for the proctor to return it to him/her. Specific instructions for the exam such as closed book, time length for exam etc. are also included on the coversheet.

UF EDGE emails the proctor the exam along with the coversheet. There will be several usernames and passwords that are exclusive to a particular exam included in the email. After the exam is given it is the Proctor's responsibility to return the exam to the instructor as indicated on the coversheet. The proctor must also destroy/trash all emails and exam files that are completed and keep a copy of the completed exam until the student has received a grade. For more information on administering exams go to Proctor Instructions for Administering Exams.

The cover sheet is emailed as an attachment to the student at the same time the exam is sent to the proctor. The student is responsible for setting up a time with their Primary Proctor for taking the exam. If the student or proctor cannot set a time that is within the time frame set by the instructor, it is the student's responsibility to contact the instructor for an exception.

There may be times when a student must find an alternate proctor for a specific exam. If this happens, the student must submit a new proctor form indicating this person as the primary proctor, also be sure to check the box that asks if an exam has already been sent out.

The student is allowed to have as many proctors listed as they need, but only one can be designated as the Primary Proctor. The Primary proctor will be the only person that receives the exam. Therefore, the student must log into their UF EDGE account to verify the primary proctor is correct.
