Faculty often ask questions about how courses are recorded and archived, and the process for exams and handouts. On this page you'll find the details of UF EDGE course materials policies.
COURSE AUDIO/VIDEO RECORDING
All lectures recorded in UFEDGE classroom/studios are mastered on DVD-R. A second DVD-R is recorded and given to the faculty at the end of the semester along with a data CD containing electronic versions of handouts and exams. The classes also are encoded for RealMedia streams and Windows Media streams and are available to students on demand until the end of the semester through the class site on UF's WebCT teaching platform.
ARCHIVES OF RECORDED COURSES
Courses are archived at UFEDGE until the course is taught again by the same faculty or for a maximum of one year. At the end of the semester the course is archived and the older version of the course, by the same faculty, is destroyed. If the course is not taught again by the same faculty member, the faculty is notified and the course will be transferred to the faculty or destroyed as per request of the faculty.
RECORDED COURSE DUPLICATION
Each semester we get several requests from students for a copy of a course that is in our archives. These copies are being requested for the purpose of studying for qualifying or comprehensive exams. We require that these requests are made with the faculty who taught the course and that an email is sent to Ronnie Wisener (rwise@eng.ufl.edu) from the faculty authorizing the reposting of the streaming files and/or duplication. The reposting of the streaming files is the preferred method of delivery. If the requestor does not have access to broadband for steaming video, he/she is then asked to bring three DVD-R's to UFEDGE for the purpose of moving the streaming files onto.
COURSE HANDOUTS AND EXAMS
Along with the recordings the class handouts and exams are also archived for the same length of time if they are originally served through UFEDGE as PDF files. Handouts and exams are stored in electronic format only.
